Delivered Meals
AASC’s nutrition program provides hot, frozen, or canned meals to eligible senior citizens. Hot meals are delivered twice a week, which equals 7 meals on a weekly basis. Frozen meals are delivered every 14 days, so this is one nutritious meal per day. Eligible seniors are at least 60 years old, homebound, and low-income.
Congregate Nutrition Sites
Eight Community Central congregate nutrition sites offer active adults 60 or older a friendly and fun place to gather for socialization, exercise, nutrition, health programs, health screenings and nutrition counseling with a registered dietitian. Participants can also learn a craft, participate in activities and enjoy a nutritious lunch. Participants may be eligible for transportation assistance to the site. All sites meet from 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

AASC Cares for Pets
AASC Cares for Pets provides pet food, supplies, veterinary care, temporary boarding and grooming services for its clients. With generous funding from Meals on Wheels and PetSmart Charities, home-delivered meals clients
Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens has operated a pet program since 2017, that began with distributing pet food to homebound clients who also received home-delivered meals.
For many of these socially isolated clients, their pets are the only companions they may have on a regular basis. AASC understands the importance of keeping these companion animals happy and healthy. Medical evidence shows a direct correlation between pet ownership and improved health and quality of life for these individuals. Their four-legged, furry friends help reduce loneliness and increase clients’ safety.
AASC recognizes the important role that pets play in the lives of many of its older clients and wants to foster that special relationship to last as long as possible.
Thanks to the generosity of Meals on Wheels and PetSmart Charities, AASC Cares for Pets provides not only pet food, but has expanded to provide veterinary care, limited boarding and grooming services.
