AASC Encourages Employers, Clubs and Churches to Host Free Workshop
The Appalachian Agency for Senior Citizens (AASC) invites organizations, including churches, civic clubs and workplaces, to host a fun and free
interactive workshop series called You Can! Live Well, Virginia!
This workshop can be completed in six 2.5-hour meetings.
Each participant who completes the workshop receives a copy of the book Living a Health Life with Chronic Conditions. Intended to help individuals take charge of their health, the workshop series is designed for people with chronic conditions like diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, chronic pain and anxiety.
The workshop offers instruction on effective communication with family and health care providers, managing medications, designing a fitness program, managing symptoms, eating healthy, and other tools for healthy living. Caregivers of people with chronic diseases may also find the workshop helpful.
You Can! Live Well, Virginia! is made possible by funding from the Administration on Aging, the Virginia Department for the Aging, and the Virginia Department of Health’s Division of Chronic Disease Prevention and Control. For more information, contact Debbie Barnhart at 276-964-4915.
AASC is one of Virginia’s 25 Area Agencies on Aging designated by the Virginia Department for the Aging to carry out the department’s mission to foster the dignity, independence and security of older Virginians by promoting partnerships with communities at the local level. AASC offers information and services for older adults residing in Buchanan, Dickenson, Russell and Tazewell counties.
